World Phone in Sick Day
6 April 1998
Decadent Action, the consumer terrorist organisation, have called the second World Phone in Sick Day for 6 April 1998. The significance of the date is that it is the first day of the financial new year, and Decadent Action are out to destroy the monetary system... at their leisure.

Last year the day sparked media interest, culminating in the group being credited with inspiring British Airways workers with phoning in sick en-masse instead of striking in a dispute with management. Some 2000 BA staff took part.

The idea of World Phone in Sick Day is to damage the economy by costing employers millions and contributing to inflation. The stated aim of the group is the destruction of capitalism via hyper-inflation caused by excessive spending and employee disobedience. Workers calling in sick costs UK industry over £13 billion each year (figures: The Industrial Society).

Decadent Action were the subject of a 30 minute Channel 4 documentary in October 1997, "Gluttony with Decadent Action."  It was part of the "Seven Sins" series, which featured Howard Marks, Kathy Lette and Dennis Pennis.

The group has since received extensive coverage throughout the UK and Europe, with features in magazines such as The Face, i-D and Select. They also received an invite to talk in the USA, and gave witness to audiences in San Francisco and Portland.

Decadent Action contribute a regular irreverent shopping guide to loafing magazine The Idler.
